Definition:
Intelligence is defined as the ability to adjust to one's environment. It also can be defined as the power to make correct responses from the standpoint of truth and fact. Thus, we may say that intelligence is an indicator of the ability to cope successfully with novel situations.
Measurements:
The level of intelligence an individual has is measured by
the difficulty of the task he can perform.
the range or worth of action he can do so
the speed with which he can do so
Meaning of I.Q:
It is a ratio between Mental Age and Chronological Age multiplied by 100.
I.Q= (Mental Age/Chronological Age) * 100
Example:
A five year old child with a mental age of six will have an I.Q of 120
I.Q=6/5 * 100 = 120
I.Q indicates the rate of mental growth of a child. It expresses the size of yearly increments that are made to a child's mental level. So, it may be regarded as an index of intelligence. However, children with the same I.Q may differ in M.A and C.A.
